Follow these simple steps to find an Ordnance Survey of Great Britain (OSGB) grid reference for anywhere in Britain, within 60 easy seconds! You can click the 'back' button of your browser to return to the sightings report form at any time.

Step 1.  Click this link (www.multimap.com) to open Multimap in a new window. Then enter a place name close to the location of your sighting. Then press the 'ENTER' key, or click the  find  button.

Step 2. (Optional)  If you prefer to see Ordnance Survey mapping, you can hover your cursor over the  Map  button to the top-left corner of the map. At certain zoom levels (13 to 15) a call-out bubble will appear. Clicking this bubble will load OSGB mapping. You do not need to do this to obtain a grid reference, but OS maps often contain greater detail.

Step 3.  Use the zoom tool (top-right of the map) and drag the map (mouse left click, hold, drag, release) until you find the location of your sighting. Position the cursor over the exact location, and click the right mouse button. A menu will appear, select  [+] Move map to here .

Step 4.  Below the map, to the right-hand side is a panel displaying map information. The OSGB grid reference of the centre of the map is written here (it may take a few seconds to appear). This is the grid reference for your sighting report !

Make a note of the grid reference, close the MultiMap page, then click your browser's 'back' button to return to your sighting report.
